SPONSORSHIP AND VOLUNTER INFORMATION

TYPICAL TRIP COST
A small jet carrying 30-35 veterans (plus volunteers) will cost approximately $36,000.
A larger jet carrying 80-100 veterans (plus volunteers) will cost approximately$75,000.
Actual cost will depend upon size of plane, number of passengers, and date of flight.

The projected cost includes charter flight, flight personnel, airport fees, motor coaches in Washington DC, meals, beverages, and a few amenities for the veterans.

WHY FLY CHARTER?
Commercial flights are less costly, and can be utilized out of major airline hubs; however, travel is even more difficult for veterans who live in areas where direct commercial flights to DC are not available. Mobility impairment, oxygen needs, and unexpected delays turn airport transfers into insurmountable travel barriers for many elderly people. In these areas, such as Northern Indiana, charter flights make the impossible possible for aging and infirm veterans. Charters will allow us to provide the flight and tour in a single day, allowing more veterans to travel.


WHAT CAN I DO TO HONOR A VETERAN?
VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME
Join the Honor Flight Volunteer Corps. We are a volunteer organization. We welcome anyone with a heart for honoring veterans. Please contact us if you are interested in contributing your time and talents to Honor Flight.

Volunteers are needed for everything from administrative tasks, fundraising, and guardians who accompany veterans on the trip to ensure a safe and memorable trip. (Volunteer guardians are asked to make a set donation to defray some of their own costs so that other donations go directly to benefit the veterans. The required Guardian contribution is currently $400.)

HOLD A FUND RAISING EVENT
We are a small group of volunteers. In order to make this work, we need volunteers from all across the NE Indiana region to hold fundraisers and donate proceeds to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. Community fundraisers, and fundraisers sponsored by churches, schools, and fraternal organizations have made this trip possible for over 17,000 veterans in other regions. ** CRITICAL NEED FOR FULL FLIGHT SPONSORS **
We have a critical need for an organization to step-forward to sponsor an entire flight.

The northern Indiana community has responded with generous donations; however, given the current economy, this is a slow process. It took over a year to get the first flight off the ground. In our 2nd year, we were able to provide an Honor Flight to 62 NE Indiana WWII veterans. We have 200 currently on the waiting list. Veterans scheduled for our upcoming flight have been on the waiting list for more than 2 years. At this pace, most will never see their memorial.

As soon as we are able to schedule a flight, we start calling the veterans on our waiting list. We always find that some have passed away, and many are no longer able to travel, even with the assistance we can provide.

Full flight sponsors honor not only the veterans on the flight they sponsor, but pave the way for the next flight of honor. It is a gift that keeps giving. Publicity from one flight brings donations for the next. We will be happy to return the favor by publicizing your generous donation to this noble cause.

Full flight sponsors may provide their company literature to be distributed to veterans and their families, may designate 2 representatives to accompany the veterans, and may choose to sponsor a welcome home reception to which regional media will be invited. Honor Flights from other regions have been featured on national newscasts. Full flight sponsors will be recognized at publicly. Let us know if you have any special requests.
