HONOR FLIGHT #11 - OCTOBER 23, 2013
While Flight #11 was hugely successful, we would like to take an opportunity to address some concerns that have been raised. Due to the government shutdown, Honor Flight Northeast Indiana was forced, with very short notice, to move its operational location from the Air National Guard Base to the civilian side at Hangar 39. Initially, we were told that the public would be allowed onto the aircraft parking ramp or possibly into the hangar to greet the veterans upon their return. Ultimately, the public was not allowed onto the ramp due to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) restrictions or into the hangar because of space limitations. Even with the public being limited to standing outside of Hangar 39 it was a very patriotic and visible display - certainly appreciated by all veterans as they walked or were wheeled down the aircraft unloading ramp. Honor Flight Northeast Indiana would like to thank everyone that participated in this homecoming celebration and apologize to anyone that was inconvenienced by this change that limited where the public could view the veterans.
Sincerely - Honor Flight Northeast Indiana Board of Directors
Honor Flight Network is a nonprofit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices by flying them to Washington, DC to reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to WWII survivors along with other veterans who are terminally ill. ALL FLIGHTS ARE FREE OF CHARGE TO THE VETERANS BEING HONORED.
Honor Flight Northeast Indiana is a recognized independent hub of the Honor Flight network and was created to raise funds and provide volunteers to take WWII veterans directly from Fort Wayne to Washington DC, where motor coaches will be standing by to transport them to their WWII Memorial, as well as other memorial stops throughout the day, before flying them back home the same evening. All of our flights are 100% funded by individual and corporate contributions. We receive no funding from any level of the government - federal, state, or local. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, and all contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of applicable tax law. Please use the button at right to donate in honor or memory of a veteran in your life, or just to say "Thank You" to those who paid the price! You can also mail your contribution to the address at right.
We are always looking for more WWII veteran applications. Any WWII veteran who has not seen their memorial is eligible to go on our flights. There is no cost to the veteran. Please find more info (and the downloadable application) here.
Honor Our Veterans Today!
Why today? To be frank, time is limited for our WWII heroes. WWII veterans are leaving us at a rate of over 1,000 every day. It is now or never. They were our heroes, now you can be theirs.
There is a long waiting list of WWII Veterans in the Northeast Indiana region who have applied to be included in an Honor Flight trip. Help support your heroes today!
